Cats WIN! 2015 SWCCC Mountain Bike Champions!

On Saturday, the men’s A team had a commanding XC race- taking 1,2, 4 and 5th (Kyle Trudeau, David Carlson, Ian Wilkey, and Bryan Little). David Greif easily won the men’s B race. Amy Burkel, in her first mountain bike race, took 3rd in the women’s B. Saturday’s success put the team within striking distance for the title- just like in 2014.

On Sunday, the men’s A team went 1-4 in the STXC (same order as Saturday), David repeated his victory, and Erica Clevenger came in 2nd in the women’s A. The team jumped to a 14 point lead over NAU going into the team relay. The relay was a must win for UA- the difference between first and second place? 14 points.

And win they did! The team relay (Trudeau, DC, Clevenger, and Wilkey) dominated from start to finish. It came down to the final race, but your University of Arizona Wildcats pulled off the upset and unseated NAU as the 2015 SWCCC Division 1 team omnium champions!

We we’re thrilled to share the win with our long time sponsors, Dr. Keith Carlson of Claris Eye Care! Thanks for helping us reach our goals Dr. Carlson!

This week, the team- Kyle, DC, Ian, and Bryan- head out to Snowshoe, WV for nationals. Let’s bring home a jersey! BEARDOWN!

Beginning of the Year Info!

Screen Shot 2014-01-20 at 1.27.16 PMFirst, WELCOME NEW WILDCATS! We’re super excited to meet you and go on epic rides this fall!

I want to make it clear that everyone is welcome on the UA Cycling Team from P-R-O riders to casual and everything in between. Road, mountain, cross, BMX, track- if it has two wheels and rolls, you’re in! We aim to provide a welcoming environment where everyone can learn, grow, and push their limits. And if you have a need for speed, we have a pretty solid racing squad as well.

So! How do you get started?!
Join the team Facebook page (restricted to Arizona e-mails) and the e-mail list (directions on the About page). All information is posted on these two sources.

Rides:
All club rides start on 8/24. Most meet at 6:30am at the flag pole by Old Main (west side of the building) and are no drop unless otherwise stated. A helmet, water, and functioning bike are required. We’re trying something new this year and making our fall rides geared to help riders get prepared for the 100 mile El Tour de Tucson (more on that later).

Monday Mosey- a nice easy 15 mile or so ride. Most likely will have a skill component to it. Ride leader: Joey
Tuesday Worlds- a fast romp through the Tucson Mountains. 35 miles in about 1.5 hours, this is a drop ride. Leader: Joey
Tuesday weights- meet at the Rec Center at 5pm (subject to change). Leaders: David Greif and Bilal Lulu
Wednesday Whirl- a longer, endurance (15-18 mph) ride. Typically around 2 hours. Leader: Jenny Quijada
Thursday: Cafe Ride! A casual ride to the Mercado de San Augustin to get coffee and pastries. Casual clothes and campus bikes totally fine.
Friday Freewheeling- Similar to Wednesday in length and pace. Leader: Sam Gross
Saturday: Race, Shoot Out (a super quick 60 mile ride) or David will be longer (3 or so hour) endurance ride.
Sunday: As posted

Mountain bike specific rides:
Ando has been leading some awesome skill rides as well as rides on Lemmon. Mountain bike rides can be a bit tricky since campus is a bit of a ride from the nearest trail. If you have a car and are willing to drive, please let us know!

Cyclocross specific rides:
This will come later, around October and will be lead by several of us.
Of course, if you can’t make the scheduled rides, you can always post one on FB and on the e-mail list if you’d like company.

Our first team meeting is on Thursday, 8/27, at 5pm in the Copper Room of the Student Union. If you can’t make that, we’ll be at Meet Me at the Rec on Monday, 8/24 from 6-8pm.

As always, let me know if you have any questions. I’m looking forward to some epic rides and good times this fall! I’ll see you all on two wheels soon!
