Upcoming events!

We’re super excited to be hosting several races in the Tucson area in the spring of 2020!

1/25: Race Against Time. We’ve moved the TT to a new course in San Manuel- the only hilly 30 KM time trial in the state! Race info and sign up are on SWSportsReg

2/1: La Vuelta a Santa Catalina Road Race. Same great course as last year in Oracle and San Manuel! Race distances vary between 27, 54, and 80 miles. Find out more here.

2/1: UA Grand Prix. We’re back on the UA main mall again for the 4th year! A short, but technically challenging course that will test your handling abilities. Find out more here.

Finally, if you are a UA student interested in racing with us, come to our info session on 1/16 @ 6pm in CAPLA 302A

End of Semester and CX Nats

Another semester comes to a close and we’ve had a great fall! We recruited our largest freshman class (8!) and sent our first full MTB squad to nationals in several years. At CX Nats, we brought back a second place in the women’s CX race (Cara), 19th and 33 in the men’s race (John; Tim), 3rd in the team relay, and 3rd overall!

We’re looking forward to spring 2020! We’ll see you soon at our home race weekend!

Mid-Semester Update

Our six-person mountain bike squad just returned from the most successful collegiate mountain bike nationals in nearly a decade! Racing took place in cool, sunny, and dry conditions in Big Bear, CA.

On the women’s side:
Shelby Hoglund placed 14th in the XC and 15th in the short track (STXC)
Lily Pepe placed 29th in the XC and 23rd in the STXC

On the men’s side:
Spencer Ciammitti finished a career-best 4th in the STXC and 9th in the XC
Grayson Hughes was 17th in the XC and 29th in STXC
Ethan Krafft was 30th in the XC and 36 in the STXC
Collin DiMattio was 43rd in the XC and 32 in the STXC

Grayson, Lily, Shelby, and Spencer took on the team relay on Sunday- a first for us at this nationals- and finished 7th. Overall, the team was 9th in the omnium across all events. With no one graduating from this group, we’re stoked to continue building our mountain bike program for 2020! We’re especially looking to build out the gravity side of the team.

In sponsorship news, we’re proud to announce our new title sponsor:

Garmin has proved the team with some of their outstanding products to help us train smarter, harder, and more efficiently. Look for our riders to be rocking some new tech soon! Fun fact: Garmin has an office here in Tucson!
